Okay so I was going to dye the bottom layer of my hair dark blue and do some highlights, I was wondering when the blue fades will it turn to a moldy green?

All my friends say it will , they say thats why they never gotten blue in their hair.

  1. I have never tried that particular brand so i will answer based on my experience with other semi-permanent hair dyes - namely Manic Panic and Special Effects.

The way the blue dye will take to your hair and subsequently fade depends on the type of blue you are using and on the state of your (bleached) hair.

After bleaching, the hair can sometimes be quite yellow and brassy, so when dyeing it certain blues the result would be a bit more "green-ish" than desired, and it might fade to a turquoise/greener blue. Because Yellow+Blue=Green

The solution is to use a toner (which is normally a light lavender colour), which will sort of "eat up" the brassiness and yellow tones and leave your hair more white. This will help tremendously in getting your hair a true blue (that fades blue). Both Manic Panic as well as S.E. offer toners, one i believe it's called "Virgin Snow". You can easily get toners wherever you get your dye.

Now about the dye - there are different shades of blue out there, some are more turquoise with green and cyan undertones and others are more indigo with purple and true blue undertones - go for those. I personally recommend Special Effects in Electric Blue - it stayed true blue on me for very long and when it faded (way over a month), it faded purple. But by the time it starts fading you apply the colour again, of course.

Here is a link to a website that has a plethora of information on different hair dyes, as well as tips for "dye perfection" ;P There is also a gallery with pictures of the different results with different dye brands and colours.

Good luck with your blue hair!

  2. One of my friends once died a strand of her hair blue, after bleaching it. It might turn into a moldy green if you use permanent die, but if you use one of those three month lasting dye kits it'll go back to blond once the die fades away. Then, if you were satisfied with the blue, you can redye your hair blue, once again

  3. Eh, depends on what kind of dye you ge

ta cheap walmart one will turn that colour

a nice salon one might not

    I not sure

  4. it will probably fade to a moldy green... my sister's ex had blue hair that did that
