  1. Considering that Toshiba just announced that they will no longer manufacture HD DVD players, your question is already answered. Get a Blu-Ray player.

You might still be able to get a very cheap HD DVD player, but within a few months it will only be useful to upconvert regular DVDs.

  2. Blu-ray will win but watch out because mechanical media devices are on their way out. Flash memory is getting so fast and cheap that it wont be long before all content is contained on cards. You can bet that the manufacturers are already all over this and will delay release of these products until they pay for and profit from the R&D costs of the current generation of blu-ray products. The final end will be that everything will eventually be direct data transfer.

  3. I wouldn't get either one yet.

You have a HD TV which will give you a better picture no matter what- I'd save $$ unless your DVD player is broken & wait a while until they figure it out. Just like back when there was BetaMax (and that lasted about 2-3 yrs?)

  4. The studios are currently running away from HD DVD at high speed. So Blueray is almost certainly going to win.

  5. do a quick search on google news enter "HD-DVD"  and you will quickly figure that question out for yourself, there are thousands of news stories over the last 3 or 4 days announcing that HD-DVD is now a dead format. Toshoba the company behind HD-DVD is expected to announce this week that they are conceding defeat to Blu-Ray and stopping production.

Walmart and Netflix both announced that they are eliminating Blu-Ray, Best Buy is concentrating on Blu-Ray as their recommendation. Blockbuster is not stocking HD-DVD titles in their stores. Targert does not carry HD-DVD players. and 75-80% of all movie studios only release new titles on Blu-Ray. Many production plants are also replacing their HD-DVD pressing lines with Blu-Ray pressing lines. based off of all that I think it is safe to say that you should go with Blu-Ray.

Yes you can use HDMI with Blu-Ray or PS3.

And the picture quality between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray is pretty much equal. Although Blu-Ray format has a larger disc capacity that will allow for it to improve its picture quality in time. Many people argue that they don't like Blu-Ray because it is an unfinished format, meaning that there are still features being developed on new players. I see that as a good thing though. HD-DVD is a finished format, they have no where else to go in adding features and improvements, where as Blu-Ray still has that ability becasue of the larger disc size of 25GB or a dual layer 50GB disc.

If you have the money get Blu-Ray, but it is still a bit pricey, i would wait a few months before rushing into a purchase and see if prices go down.

  6. get blue-ray

walmrt and other stores said they wont support HDDVD

  7. would be patient,a lot of new players are due to be released very soon. Also, many companies are still undecided to go with either blu-ray or hdd

  8. I highly recommend Blu-Ray Disc.Currently, the majority of movies (and some TV shows,i guess) like 20th Century Fox & Warner Bros. are linked to Blu-Ray as well as electronics companies like Apple & Dell.Sony is the leader of the format and has been successful. The PS3 has a Blu-Ray player built into it & has games & movies in Blu-Ray Disc. Some people are holding out because they are confused, but it looks as if HD DVD will be dropped soon (by the leader Toshiba) with its small company & studio support & recently low sales.Even though HD DVD is the choice for a good HD movie at a low price,it is suffering badly. Both formats have a evenly matched picture, regardless of the kind of HDTV you view your HD movies. However, even though it looks like Blu-Ray Disc is the winner, there is the option of downloading movies in HD,which also beats out both disc formats & is constantly growing,so you might want to watch out for those.

In conclusion,i choose Blu-Ray to be the clear winner with its extensive lead over HD DVD.

  9. Toshiba annoced they are dropping the HD DVD format Blu Rey won the battle
