so ok i now know that a blueray plays 1080p, ok....so will it automatically play 720p since that is the max my tv will go up to or will it just downgrade to 480p?

is it worth having a blueray/ps3 hooked up to a 720p tv?

  1. Your TV will automatically down-scale 1080p to its native resolution. Blue Rays look impressive on a 720p TV provided your screen size is appropriate for a 720p resolution. Plasma TVs up to 50" if viewed from 8' or more are very impressive with Blue Rays. 720p LCD TVs up to 40" viewed from at least 6-7' look very impressive as well. If your TV screen is larger or you view these TVs closer than the above dimensions, then a 1080p TV is more appropriate.

Additional Details: I've watched Blue Rays on a Sony KDL-26S3000 and the detail and clarity are amazing! Most LCD HDTVs operate @ 60 Hz (60 frames per second). All LCD TVs blur fast moving objects and create jittered motion. 120 Hz is a technique that helps to reduce some of this.
