Blues’ Isaia Toeava out for the rest of Super Rugby competition - Rugby Update
Blues’ full-back Isaia Toeava has been ruled out for the rest of Super Rugby competition due to a stress fracture in his hip.
The full-back was not seen at the practice session and later Blues’ coach Pat Lam revealed that Toeava had suffered a serious stress fracture to his hip that has put him out of competition.
The injury has come out at a very crucial time as Super Rugby season is going towards the end. More than half of the season is over and the Blues are topping the tables with the most victories in matches played so far. The Blues have grabbed eight victories
after ten outings and Isaia Toeava contributed well in their success.
He was one of the competitive players for his side and made the defence too good to be true. The Blues conceded the least number of tries during his presence and the side will certainly miss him for the rest of season. He is expected to be replaced by Jared
Payne, who will move from centre to defence line.
The coach of the Blues’ Pat Lam told the reporters that the full-back was suffering from the same injury for the past one year and ultimately it was impossible for him to carry on. He commented that doctors have rested him for six weeks which means that
he will be out of action for this season. The coach said that Toeava has been asked to take light exercise that involves no weight bearing on his hip. Lam added that fracture was not so bad but enough to put him out of action.
Lam argued that there were some fitness problems with the Blues at the start of championship as he had only 20 fit players to go with. Currently the Blues have been hit heavily by injuries as their four key players including Toeava have been side-lined.
Toeava was also impeded by same injury during the last season and he left his side midway. However the doctors were confident that injury will heal before the All Blacks rugby.
