Blues announce squad for Super Rugby semi-final match against Reds - Super Rugby News
The Blues have announced their squad for their upcoming Super Rugby semi-final match against the Queensland Reds, on July 2. They have made two major changes in their side for the big match to be played at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium. Rene Ranger and Lachie
Munro have made a comeback into the side after various injuries. Blues coach, Pat Lam, announced the team and declared the team balanced and comparable the Super Rugby top ladders, Queensland Reds.
Pat Lam told the media that Rene Ranger and Lachie Munro have been recalled to the Blues side after recovering from their respective injuries. Ranger was suffering from a hamstring issue and has missed Blues a couple of the last matches due to the same injury.
Munro was hit with a rib injury during the Blues last clash against the Waratahs. The flanker was feared to miss the semi-final match but Pat Lam cleared that he will be available for the Saturday’s fixture.
The Blues coach commented on the squad and said, "It's a tough decision as we go through it but it's about getting through today's training, getting over to Brisbane and then making a call tomorrow when we get over there. We've still got plenty of time,
we've got three days before the game and it's seeing how they both come out of training today."
Rene Rangers and Lachie Munro have been in the Blues since 2009 and have represented the derby in 23 and 11 games respectively. Ranger earned 45 points for his team whereas Munro elevated the Blues with 30 points. The Blues are expecting a good performance
from the pair.
Chris Lowrey has also been included in the team and he will replace Anthony Boric, who is out with a foot injury. Talking about the outgoing Boric, Pat Lam said that, "He's a massive loss. With all the players that we have lost we just have to move forward
and I'm really confident that Chris Lowrey will do a good job as well as Ali and the other forwards."
The Blues will go up against the Reds with following players:
Blues: Jared Payne, Joe Rokocoko, Benson Stanley, Luke McAlister, Lachie Munro/Rene Ranger, Stephen Brett, Alby Mathewson; Charlie Faumuina, Keven Mealamu (captain), John Afoa, Chris Lowrey, Ali Williams, Jerome
Kaino, Luke Braid, Peter Saili
Replacements: Tom McCartney, Tevita Mailau, James King/Mat Luamanu, Daniel Braid, Chris Smylie, Munro/Ranger, Winston Stanley/Sherwin Stowers.
