Blues coach Pat Lam denies Jerome Kaino to participate in upcoming Super Rugby clash - Rugby News
Blues coach, Pat Lam has denied Jerome Kaino, to participate in their forthcoming Super Rugby clash against the Queensland Reds, on May 13, 2011. Lam, who helped the Blues remain unbeaten during their last nine outgoings declared Kaino unfit, as he saw him limping during their last match against the Hurricanes.
Blues rolled over the Hurricanes in a 17-11 victory, after a close contest to continue their winning run. The Hurricanes were going well in the first-half of the match, as it seemed that the Blues would end their winning run. However, the day proved devastating for the Hurricanes after they lost the match and their halfback Tyson Keats, was also ruled out from four matches for a dangerous tackle.
Kaino was suffering from a strained hamstring before the match, but he was included in the side for his performance during the practice session. He was called off the field by Lam, during the second-half of the match.
Lam told reporters that there is nothing wrong with Kaino, but the team management cannot take any risk for the upcoming important matches. He added, “He is actually OK, and possibly could play but we're going to give him a week's rest this week. He's had a big workload and it's a chance to have a week and trust the rest of the squad.”
The coach took the decision of resting Kaino, after a couple of Blues players are making their comeback form respective injuries. Lam further said that he was in touch with the All Blacks’ coaches, as the Rugby World Cup is set to begin this September.
Kaino is a formidable part of the All Blacks squad. Pat, while explaining his decision to rest the player, argued, “We're working with the All Blacks coaches as well, and working out what's best for Jerome, what's best for New Zealand rugby and what's best for the Blues.”
Blues are topping the tables in the ongoing Super Rugby championship, with nine victories. They have perceived just one defeat in the so far played matches and will be looking to continue their winning run, in their upcoming match against the Queensland Reds.
