Blues’ coach Pat Lam says his side missing injured Isaia Toeava - Super Rugby updates
The Blues’ coach, Pat Lam, spoke to reporters on May 24th and expressed his thoughts about injury struck Isaia Toeava, and said his side is hurting because the first-five eight was not present in recent matches.
Toeava sustained a hip injury during the 11th round of Super Rugby which ruled him out for the rest of season. He was in a good nick in the first 10 matches of the season and contributed reasonably well in those outgoings.
The Blues are placed in second position on the overall points table, and are leading the other New Zealander derbies in the ongoing Super Rugby. They claimed nine victories after 13 outgoings and they are sure to make their place in the semi-final stages.
The Blues have clearly lost their depth in their attacking lines after Toeava’s departure. Their coach, Pat Lam, told the reporters today in a press conference that his side would further miss the star player in remaining crucial matches. The Blues are due
to play three games, before the semi-final stages in the current Super Rugby championship against the Chiefs, Crusaders and Highlanders.
Coach said that Toeava’s absence was a significant loss because he was not only a good defender but inspiring soul as well. He added, “The pack is producing most of the time but some of the things that we are doing, we don't have the same strikepower without
Ice [Toeava].”
Lam further said that, “We had a bit of breathing space but we have lost that now and it is now the hard way in. All that means is we need to win the three games we have left. We have to step up and do that and there is a bit of strategy that has to go in
to do that and I want my key guys to look at it from the wide view.”
The Blues will cash in a bye during the next week and they will take on the Chiefs on June 4th.
