Blues goalkeeper Petr Cech receives Chelsea’s Player of the Year award
Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has been awarded the Chelsea’s Player of the Year award, which is given at the end of the season after the fans cast their votes.
Around 28,000 Chelsea supporters voted for their favorite player this season and Cech emerged as the winner to receive the Player of the Year prize.
Cech, who signed for Chelsea in 2004, revealed he was extremely pleased to have won the prominent award which confirmed his status as one of the top goalkeepers in the English Premier League.
Cech said while speaking to reporters, “I have been here seven years now and playing with some of the best players in the world doesn't make it easy for a goalkeeper to win an award, but I am really pleased.”
The Chelsea number one continued, “I really appreciate it because having played for such a great club with great players, to win player of the year is a great achievement.”

While last season Chelsea went on to win a historic domestic double; English Premier League and FA Cup, this season they end up without any silverware.

Cech admitted the season had been disappointing but insisted he would be looking forward to next season, in hopes to help the Blues return to winning sways.
The 29-year-old revealed he was looking forward to winning the UEFA Champions League with the Blues, he said, “You always want to win everything but especially the Champions League now, that is the only one missing.”
Chelsea have gone on to win all the other trophies except for the Champions League, which has become somewhat of an obsession for the club.
With the summer arriving the Blues will be looking to reinforce their squad, to present a stronger challenge for the European Cup next season.
Many players look to be facing the axe but the Czech goalkeeper will not have to worry about being replaced going into the next season.
Celebrating his 29th birthday today, Cech is at the top of his game. He has won the Barclays Golden Glove twice, in the 2004-2005 and 2009-2010 seasons.
