Blues skipper John Terry wishes to manage Chelsea, as the search for a new manager continues
Chelsea and England captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 revealed he would like to manage the Blues after he retired from football. The Blues central defender made no secret of his desire to manage the London club whenever he decided to hang up his boots.
It was revealed that Terry had asked for an option to be included in his contract which would make it possible for him to join the management side once he retired.
Terry admitted his desire to manage the Blues in the near future, having been at the club his almost entire senior career, except for a loan spell to Nottingham Forest in the 2000 season.
The Chelsea skipper said while speaking to reporters, “I’d love to manage Chelsea, whether that comes two years after I finish playing, straight away or five years away, I’d love to manage Chelsea Football Club.”
Terry went on to say, “I’ve been there all my career and I want to stay on here to the end, and I feel that I’ve got some knowledge to pass on, maybe to the youth team at first and then the first team. I’m doing the badges at the moment so hopefully that’ll
be done sooner rather than later, and then I can look towards that.”
The Chelsea captain’s confession comes at a time when the manager’s position at the London club is very uncertain. Current Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti is expected to be sacked at the end of the season, having failed to lead the club to any silverware this
season. This has been the first time Chelsea have ended up trophy-less since the Russian billionaire, Roman Abramovich, took over the club.
Offences less extreme by previous managers have been punished with being shown the door, so it’s likely Ancelotti’s trophy less season will not be overlooked. It is understood Abramovich is already on the lookout for a replacement and is considering bringing
back former short-time http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 boss Guus Hiddink, who is currently managing the Turkish national side.
Hiddink’s current contract does not allow him to manage a club while he is in charge of the Turkey side, so the Chelsea owner might have to look elsewhere. Jose Mourinho has been linked with a return to Stamford Bridge, but it seems unlikely that the Portuguese
manager, who is extremely happy at Real Madrid, will make a comeback.
While Abramovich would love nothing more than the Chelsea skipper taking over the manager’s reign next season, Terry is not quite ready to retire. The 30-year-old defender has a couple of good years in him, and his leadership qualities will be crucial in
helping the Blues recover from this particularly turbulent and disappointing season.
John Terry is into his 13th season with the Blues, having made 484 appearances and scored 42 goals in all competitions. The Chelsea skipper will try and salvage what remains of the season as the Blues travel to Wigan over the weekend in the Premier
League clash. With seven games remaining, Chelsea are now aiming for a top four finish to secure a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
