Blyleven’s no. 28 gets honorary retirement, Oakland Athletics sport new attire
In recent news that has come up, Bert Blyleven will get to see the Minnesota Twins immortalize him when the club will retire his jersey number from the team.
Bert recently received an honourable induction in the Hall of Fame. After struggling for a graduation for 14 years, the veteran’s prayers were all answered in January when he received a phone call from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.
The Twins have 6 players now, who have represented them in the Hall of Fame. Blyleven, being the sixth joins, Harmon Killebrew, Rod Carew, Kent Hrbek, Tony Oliva and Kirby Puckett.
The number 28 has been part of a long history for Bert. The pitcher wore the number for 11 seasons he spent with the club. The Twins plan to honour the player by retiring the number on July16th, 2011. The day will feature a game between the Texas
Rangers and the Twins in Target Field.
"2011 is going to be a special year for the Blyleven family, the Twins organization and millions of fans across Twins Territory", Twins CEO, Jim Pohlad, said in a statement. "As excitement builds for Bert's induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame,
the Twins organization is proud to bestow our highest honour with the retirement of his jersey - No. 28. Bert Blyleven Day is aimed at celebrating Bert's incredible contributions on and off the field, while also providing he and his family a proper send-off
to Cooperstown".
In other news, the Oakland Athletics have cast a stone stepping move recently. The management at the club’s headquarters have gone ahead to replace its alternate home jersey with a gold one.
The new attire will replace the traditional white uniform in the coming season and it serves as a note for the future as the club looks to expand its fan base outside the current market.
A’s General Manager, Billy Beane, was quick to pass a comment on the jerseys by calling the new look, ‘canary yellow’. Oakland got another comment and this time it was from Jerry Blevins who said, "It might be hard not to notice us now".
The Oakland Athletics are looking to lead this year with a new trend if that doesn’t help them get their mindset right for the competition ahead, the roster will probably be indifferent to it as their focus is mainly on baseball at the moment.
