  1. I used 'contact' adhesive on my friends roof liner on the inside of his BMW 320.

It's called 'Impact' adhesive and you can get it from Halfords.  You need to use a spreader and you spread an even layer over each surface. Leave it for 5 minutes and then press the two parts together.

  2. Use superglue which has been formulated for fabric.

  3. Dude, get a Audi

  4. There are only 2 solutions. Either you bring it to an upholstery shop that works on soft tops so that it can be repaired (if still possible), or you have the roof liner changed with a new one. No amount of super glue or what have you can correct the problem.

With age, and considering the alternating heat and cold that the soft top goes through, the fabrics (both soft top canvas and roof liner)

usually shrink and get brittle. They are not lifetime items. Perhaps extra fabric can be attached to the lower/far ends of the roof liner. But if the original fabric is already brittle or easily frays, nothing can be done.

  5. see if you can sew it without going throught the roof with fishing line ???

  6. This was a common problem, especially when the rear window was replaced.....

Unlatch the top to release the tension on the top material

Carefully clean the inside of the top material and the adhesive strip in the area where the material is loose with mineral spirits, and allow to dry.

Brush an even coat of 3M adhesive (product # 1357, High Performance Contact Adhesive) inside the top material and on the adhesive strip. Allow the adhesive to dry for about ten minutes, and then press the top material back in place, inserting the edge of the material into the plastic channel. Put pressure on the inside of the soft top and rub vigorously on the outside to set the adhesive.

3M 1357 High Performance Contact Adhesive is available in 1 pint containers through 3M Automotive Products distributors.

If for some reason the above repair does not last, the rear window should be replaced. Carefully clean off all old adhesive inside the top material before installing the new window.

  7. dont we all just hate it when our soft top BMW's dont comply!
