Bo McKinnis claims R.A. Dickey will continue his sublime form in upcoming seasons - MLB Update
Agent of R.A. Dickey, Bo McKinnis has claimed that the knuckleballer has the potential to put up even better performances in the upcoming years.
He is gradually reaching that level where he will be invincible.
McKinnis draws his optimism from the fact that ever since Dickey mastered his knuckleball, he has been showing improvements every year.
It will not be a surprise if he has another Cy Young Award winning type of year.
Even as Dickey ages, he can throw as effectively as he did in 2012 season. The kind of expertise that he possesses does not a have strong relationship with age.
He just throws knuckleballs, which do not require much power in the arms.
It is more about the mind than physical strength when it comes to discussing Dickey's arsenal of skills.
In light of this, the Mets can extend a contract to Dickey without being worried about his decline down the line.
Talks between both the parties are on-going. The Mets are reluctant to grant Dickey a long-term agreement. At the same time, they are unwilling to offer him the amount of money that he is looking for.
Boosted by his tremendous success in 2012 season, Dickey is trying to earn an expensive deal from the Mets.
If both sides fail to decide about the agreement renewal, he will be traded by the Mets.
Dickey can feel lucky to have a long list of clubs vying for his acquisition through trade. Regardless of the number of interested organisations, he wants to stay with the Mets and contribute to their success.
McKinnis asserts that as soon as Dickey developed his knuckler, he started believing he can perform well in every season.
"I heard Phil Niekro say that he thinks R.A. has another gear," McKinnis said. "He thinks there's more in there and that we're going to see something even better than this year. Whether that's realistic or not, I don't know. I do know from the day he started
throwing the knuckleball in 2005 forward, it's just been a gradual incline. It's just been up, up, up. Everything has been good.”
The on-going Winter Meetings will go a long way in deciding where Dickey goes next year and plays.
Mets’ fans will be hoping that he does not leave the club.
