Bo-Mee Lee falls apart in final round of Mizuno Classic 2012
The last round of Mizuno Classic 2012 saw the scene of nerve-shattering battle between second round leader Bo-Mee Lee and American Stacy Lewis, but the latter stormed to the top of the leaderboard
after reeling off 10 birdies.
Lee, who belongs to South Korea, had convinced herself that this event was going her way, in every way. Having recorded a massive 64 in the second round, Lee took the solo lead and moved into
the final round with her head held high.
The LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament, held at Kintetsu Kashikojima Country Club, Shima-s**+, Mie, Japan, featured several big names such as current world number one Yani
Tseng, Na Yeon Choi and Japanese Mika Miyazato.
However, South Korean and other Asians looked at their best right from the start of the three-round event.
Lee quickly boosted her position in the second round as she posted an impeccable 64 to seize the lead. It looked like she was not willing to be written off as a no-hoper, as she had managed
to gain a four-stroke lead against her nearest rival Rikako Morita of Japan.
However, Lewis showed resilience and proved once again that she has every reason to lead the American lineup. She charged into contention on the last day, on the back of 10 birdies, beating
Lee in her most intense battle.
Lee tried her best to remain in contention but shooting three bogeys took a toll on her overall score, leaving her regretting poor play.
Lee admitted while speaking to the LPGA Tour at the end of the tournament that she was not happy with her last-round performance and it was a messy game dominated by several lapses.
“I’m kind of sad about today’s round. I gave myself less chances for birdie. I missed some short putts, so that’s disappointing,” she said.
Lee said that she was confident to win when she grabbed a second-round lead, but winning was not only thing troubling her as “there was a lot of tension today. I had lots of worries like if
I won whether I would join the LPGA or not. So I think that made me a little nervous”.
