Bo Porter to depart Washington Nationals and become Houston Astros’ manager - MLB Update
Washington Nationals’ third base coach Bo Porter will depart the club after this season and take over the managerial job for Houston Astros. He is switching to an organisation which falls at the bottom of the table from a club which sits at the top. In light
of this, it can be understood that the new role is not going to be easy for him to adjust to.
Astros’ owner Jim Crane will want him to accept the challenge and carry out the job successfully.
Astros currently suffer from a myriad of issues which demand close scrutiny and introduction of sweeping changes. Porter will like to bank on the experience earned in the Nationals and let the Astros enjoy similar kind of upsurge as a club.
Just the way the Nationals have been converted from mediocre to a formidable unit, Porter will look to ensure the same for the Astros.
Every time a team fails in a season, drastic measures are launched by the top officials of the club in order to make sure they could change for the better next year.
Houston is passing through a somewhat similar phase. They are in a desperate need of a leader who can fix the sinking ship and ascertain stability. A kind of skipper that can be an inspiration and can infuse renewed confidence in the players is needed.
Porter is aware of the expectations from him by his new club. He will be bringing all his experience into play to make sure he lives up to them.
His exclusion from the Nationals has deprived them of a potential successor of their current manager Davey Johnson.
He was ideally poised to assume the managerial role for the Nationals after the departure of Johnson. In light of the fact that Johnson is aging if Porter stays in the club he can become manager within few years.
However, Porter will be thinking less about the Nationals and more about the Astros now. He will be planning ways to lift the Astros from their current situation.
It will be interesting to see how he takes up the challenge and does justice to the Astros.
