Bo Van Pelt off to an average start in the Transitions Championship – Golf News
Richmond native Bo Van Pelt teed off at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Florida, with an aim to record another good finish on the PGA Tour.
Van Pelt has tied for three eighth place finishes in the last three tournaments that he played, including the World Golf Championships – Transitions Championship last week.
However, his start to the Transitions Championship campaign was not good. He carded a total of three bogeys to offset his four birdies in the opening round and finished at one-under par 70.
He is currently nine strokes off the pace set by the three-time major champion, Padraig Harrington, and is tied for the 49th place on the leaderboard.
Despite a disappointing start, Van pelt believes that he can still make a good finish at the end of the event.
He said that Harrington and Will Claxton were the only two players who made the real difference on the leaderboard by carding 61 and 64, respectively.
Otherwise, he could manage having only a four-stroke deficit to the top position, as all the third position holders shot five-under par scores.
Both Harrington and Claxton carded bogey-free rounds. However, the major difference was their number of birdies.
Harrington managed a total of ten birdies and Claxton pocketed five in all along with a spectacular eagle.
Currently resting at the 26th position in the world rankings, Van Pelt is determined to register some impressive finishes to help him boost his standing.
Focus, precision and nerve-control are key elements of any spectacular performance. The player has the ability to rise above his current position
Van Pelt now needs to make use of the momentum that he gained in the last few tournaments to surge on the leaderboard with some good display of game on the course.
Otherwise, he will suffer a worsened position at the end of the tournament, which can, in turn, demoralize him prior to the start of the Masters Tournament next month.
In the upcoming days, it will be interesting to see if Van Pelt can put up a more laudable display of his golfing skills.
