Bo Van Pelt shines at the ISPS HANDA Perth International
Bo Van Pelt fired a four-under par 68 on Sunday, to record the first ever European Tour victory of his career at the ISPS HANDA Perth International, at the Lake Karrinyup Country Club.
On Saturday, the American took the outright lead with a sparkling 60-foot birdie putt on the final hole and retained the top spot till the end of the fourth round.
He started off with a birdie putt on the first hole and added another two shots on the third and the seventh hole to reach the turn with a three-under par score.
He continued his brilliant form on the back nine of the course and birdied each of the first two holes that he played.
Despite bogeying two of the last five holes, he still managed to finish the tournament two strokes better than Jason Dufner, who finished second on the leaderboard.
Alejandro Cañizares took the sole third position after carding an 11-under par overall score. Michael Hendry finished further two strokes back to take the fourth spot on the leaderboard.
Talking to the European Tour’s official website, he expressed his pleasure in competing against Dufner in the final round.
He stated that Dufner gave him a tough challenge on Sunday and remained in contention till the final hole.
“I have a lot of respect for Jason and his game - he's a world class player and I knew it was going to be tough today,” he said.
“I knew he was going to keep the pressure on me, and I needed to play well if I was going to come out on top”.
He added, “All in all I was pleased with how I played today. I had a loose shot there on 17 that I was not that happy with, but fortunately I had a lead at that point and was able to make a putt on 18 and get it done”.
Talking about the course conditions, he said that it was really tough to play in windy conditions. Moreover, the greens were firm and fast, which added difficulty to the playing conditions in Perth.
