Bo Van Pelt surges into contention at the Crowne Plaza Invitational
Bo Van Pelt fired a six-under par 64 in the second round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational to share the third spot at the Colonial Country Club on Friday, May 25, 2012.
Pelt is looking forward to his second win on the tour right from the start of the 2012 PGA Tour season.
He has played a total of 11 events during 2012 so far and succeeded in recording five top-10 finishes.
In addition to that, he also tied for the second place at the Tavistock Cup, which is an unofficial event on the PGA Tour.
This time, he again made a great charge and jumped into contention while entering the final two rounds of the tournament.
He is currently four strokes behind the halfway leader Jason Dufner who recorded a bogey-free six-under par 64 on Friday.
“It's been good. Up to a point it's been my best year so far with the putter,” he said. “That's the main thing, I've been sticking to the same fundamentals. I just got a little bit sloppy in my setup. I've been working through that and today it felt a lot
better. So I just hope to get more and more comfortable and make a few on the weekend”.
He got off to a solid start and recorded two consecutive birdies on the first two holes he played.
The par-four sixth hole witnessed him card the only bogey of his round that he recovered with a birdie on the very next hole.
Overall, he managed to score seven birdies against a lone bogey to improve 17 positions on the leaderboard.
“I think I only made one bogey one today,” he said. “I missed the green on it yesterday. I hit the first 2 in a row and missed the last three, so it was nice to birdie 10 and 11, and I birdied 1 and 2”.
In the meantime, Zach Johnson, the overnight leader, recorded a three-under par 67 to take the sole second spot.
He is currently two strokes behind Dufner and confident to remain in contention with another good round on the weekend.
