Bo-mee takes one-shot lead in the Aussie Ladies Masters
Australian Ladies Masters started at Royal Pines, Gold Coast, Australia this Thursday. A number of players are out on the course proving their worth. However, South Korean Lee Bo-mee has remained the most spectacular so far.
Bo-mee stunned the spectators, as she fired an impressive 7-under 65 on the first day at Royal Pines. She managed to gain a one-shot lead over nearest rival.
Royal pines had comfortable winds most of the first day, providing a conducive atmosphere for players. The match saw some surprising developments as well.
The US Open winner So Yeon Ryu, who was enjoying a lead early in the round, saw her hard-earned get even stronger. She was just one shot behind Hee Kyung, who also hails from South Korea.
Christel Boeljon from Netherlands was also standing in the top spots.
One of the most prominent figures on the course was Lexi Thompson. American Thompson performed faultlessly in the round, reeling off five much-needed birdies.
On the other hand, Aussie Nikki Campbell and English Felicity Johnson also kept pace with the young American.
Thompson grabbed the headlines last year when she was declared the youngest victor on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) and Ladies European Tour (LET).
Her outstanding performance was acknowledged by several leading players, both female and male.
She fired a 5-under 67 in the Dubai Ladies Masters late last year, winning the title in an amazing style.
Speaking of her flawless performance in the first round, the leader Lee said that she was filled with confidence and did not let her nerve impact her advances.
She added that her putting skill was put to the test and she was more than thrilled about it.
Lee, who had the assistance of an interpreter, said that when she set foot on the course of Royal Pines, she was a bit skeptical as the field was stronger than her expectations.
“Driving good, irons good, putting good. Easy, easy day," Lee shared.
Another strong competitor, Ryu was also happy after displaying a phenomenal performance. She came racing from No. 10 and did more than she had thought of.
She said she was a bit nervous as the spectators had pinned high hopes on her because of her major victory.
"The first few holes I was very nervous as it is my first tournament of the year," she said. "But on the 12th hole I made a nice birdie putt so I could finally relax".
