Question:

Board games and social interaction?

I'm writing news story about a game night that was held at my university. I want to say something about social interaction and the games, but I can't really think of a creative way to tie both together in a sentence or two. Any suggestions?

  1. Despite the fact that the games were competitive, many players did not fight over winning, most enjoyed themselves and made friends that they did not have before.

Talk about competition, but friendship as well.

Like, Two friends were playing chess against each other and they did not try too hard to win because they wanted to enjoy playing the game rather than force a competitive atmosphere at the game night.

  2. Despite the nature of competitive game play, the game night allowed for a relaxing atmosphere, filled with laughter and pleasant interaction.

Something like that..compare/contrast competitive mood with a happy party.  :-)  Good luck!

EDIT:  Hey!  You look just like me!
