My mom has been planning a trip to go to LA and my sister recently broke her arm.

by the time we board the plane to go to LA she'll have her plaster cast on for about 3 weeks and I'm wondering if you're able to board the plane with it on. why or why not. please and thanks.

  1. There is no reason that she cannot.  Casts do not set off the alarms unless there is metal built into them like to old walking casts.  I have flown several times with my full leg cast and it goes through okay, but my aluminum crutches set it off and that is easily cleared up with secondary screening which I don't mind.

  2. yes you can go on with a cast they'll just have to use the metal detector to make sure nothing but your arms in there!

  3. It depends on the type cast and location.  Security and boarding isn't an issue.  Just allow extra time to get to your gate incase the security backs you up to wand the cast.  But unless it is sticking out and in others way by way of support rods it shouldn't be an issue.  If they are sitting next to someone in their seat with the casted arm next to them try to make it someone they know.  Because sometimes cast arms can get into the "personal Space" of the other customer.

Ultimately as long as she is comfortable flying there should be no problem.  If you are still uncomfortable you may call the airline to make arrangements.
