Boards should control fixing at home – Cricket News Update
Former ICC President, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ehsan-Mani-c55791, emphasized that the respective boards should take serious steps to prevent match-fixing elements from operating at any level of cricket.
"Ultimately the responsibility for a player is that of his board and that's where I think the boards are letting themselves down," said Mani.
With cricket coming under fire for increasing corruption in recent times, Mani believes the solution lies in national cricket boards taking the initiative to groom youngsters at the grass roots to produce mature cricketers.
"This cancer has spread and it's spread viciously and it needs to be dealt with, and the lead for this should be coming from the home board and not from the ICC," added Mani.
The 66-year-old further advised the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 to collaborate and work with other law enforcement agencies to effectively check the rising corruption culture in International and domestic cricket.
Mani’s remarks came after the recent match-fixing allegations published in a British newspaper, the Sunday Times. According to the report, Indian bookmakers are fixing domestic, as well as International matches and had previously rigged the high-profile

The ex-president said that it’s important to fix the root cause of the problem instead of targeting the problem itself. He also suggested that the option of legalizing betting should also be considered, provided it is monitored appropriately, since transparency
in betting will enable the governments to keep a check over book makers.
"You cannot stab out illegal booking so how you bring it into this area where you can regulate their activities, because unless that happens it's going to be impossible to stop match-fixing," said Mani.
