1991 Hurricane 21’ Deck Boat FD206, good condition meaning it has wear & tear but nothing major. Deck is good, upholstery is a little faded/dirty, no rips but has a few split seams. Bimini top, new mooring cover. No accessories (life vests, anchor, fire ext., etc).

1992 Force 100 hp ELPTO 4cyl, 2stk, elec. start/tilt motor. Number of hours is unknown

1991 Shoreland’r dual axel trailer. Some rust/wear/tear but otherwise good cond.

NADA books it between $4895 - $5320. Dealer asking $5999.00. I know it’s tough without seeing it, but what would you offer?

  1. I dont have any experience with deck boats, I would ask local marinas how well they hold up given this boat is 18 years old?

Whats the boat worth to you? You are going to buy a 18 year old piece of equipment, no one knows what that thing has been put through...

I would treat it like a car purchase, what would you expect when buying an 18 year old car, with an engine that you have no clue how much its been run. Price a new motor, put a price on the major parts that would need fixing and ask yourself if its worth your time and efforts.

Is 5,000 the top end of your budget? If thats the case-you've go it made~ All you need to worry about is finding other boats in your price range and see what you can find. Start with craigslist and then hit up ebay-get an idea of what is selling for the 5,000 dollar range.

The one year warranty....what would it cover? Be very careful...i dont know ANYONE that would put an unconditional warranty on an boat, & outboard thats 18 years old.

Ask the dealer if you can have your marine mechanic have a look at it and see what needs repairs, including the trailer (wheel bearings, tires, wiring, etc).

  2. if you are really wanting a boat, and you like this boat, i would ask to take it for a ride.

if everything works, I would offer 3,000 due to the rip seams, and no accessories. You will be looking at putting another 500 into getting the accessories that you will need just to take it out on the water.

Don't give up the 1 yr warr.

  3. Have you driven this boat?

My knee jerk reaction is this boat is underpowered.

    Deck boat or pontoon?

I am not thrilled about the Force engine.

  4. Force engines are good but once they start wearing out they are expensive,

The dealer knows this and I really think he would be willing to negotiate, I would offer him at least a grand less than the asking price.

If the engine has very many hours stay clear but if it has not been run a lot you will have a couple seasons of guud use out of it.

    $5,000 max.

  5. hi ...   the boat isnt underpowered its  right size for the boat.  The problem is that  it has a 1992 force motor.  They are no longer made and parts are no longer made for the engine. Thats my concern. You will have to look at  ebay  for used parts.  Or find the old Mercury parts equivalent and thats not easy.

If you look around you can get a good deal on a boat If you have $6000 or there abouts to offer.

It is 18 years old  you could look on ebay and sneak a deal locally  or within 1 hundred miles.

Look at the web pages for the local boat sellers in your area they always have used boats for sale. FOr example in Crysal river Fl  I saw a pontoon boat ( if a deak kind of boat is what you want)  with Mercury 90hp  for $5000,  there wa a 18ft bay boat with a Johnson for the same price.

My fear for you would be getting a boat  with a motor that is difficult to maintian aand find parts for.
