Question:

Boat Idle to fast?

by  |  earlier

All of the sudden my boat's idle has changed to 2k. I have screwed the idle s***w all the way out and all the way in and the the speed does not change a bit. When i manually close the butterfly on the carb to almost closed it will idle good until I give it gas w/the throttle and the butterfly opens. The butterfly will not go back down. Is there something im missing? Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

  1. Try cleaning the carb and linkage with carb cleaner. If this persists, you possibly have a metering needle sticking inside the carb.  Have it rebuilt by a pro.

  2. There is an idle s***w and a fast idle s***w.

You did not mention  what engine you have there but the idle s***w set the gas to air mix at idle, the fast idle s***w is to set the idle rpm. (linkage stop)

The butterfly linkage is spring return operated and it sounds to be that a (binding/sticky)  throttle cable is the couse that it won`t return properly.

Take off the cable and check if the return spring operates ok,

lube the cable and try again.

  3. Yes the cable needs adj>then use the idle s***w>
