i live in florida and do a lot of salt water fishing and boating in my 17ft center console. so i need speakers that will be able to withstand the saltwater environment. the problem i have is that my center console is NOT SEALED and i have NO WAY to seal it. the back of the speakers will not be exposed to rain or water but the cc is not sealed will that hurt the speaker sound quality?. i want to get regular marine speakers to install in the center console but i hear that they need a enclosed environment on the back side to sound good. what should i do and what can i do? I NEED HELP

  1. Try mounting two pair of box type speakers athwart-ship (facing each other) under the gunnel.  Poly-planner and Bose both make a decent speaker, if you have a better budget, look into Sonance' Mariner series, they will provide very good bass and separation.  Check them out at sonance.com.

  2. I have a pair of 6.5" Alpine 's mounted in a similar console, one facing port and one facing starboard. They sound fine. Obviously they are playing into an open area unlike a car so don't expect concert sound, but they will sound fine.

  3. rob is correct, try a bazzoka base tube strapped down some where, tha will sound good too

I have 2- 6' X 9's in a similar situation to yours, and a 10" base tube mine sounds awesome
