Boat engine stalls?

i have a ranger 175 fast strike motor and starts up fine when first in the water. after i get to my spot and turn off motor and let it sit there for 30 minutes to 1 hour. when i try to start it up it starts up right away but then while idling the engine will stall out and keep dooing that for 5-10 minutes.any ideas?

  1. most likely, the float valve needles & seats in your carbs are worn down, leaking a little into the engine, creating a rich mixture & flooding it out.

    solution is carb rebuild with new kits.

    But first, see if your spark plugs are fouled, and if the gaps are still correct (unless you're running surface gap plugs).  And all johnnyrudes run better on champions -- the NGK equivalent isn't an exact match.
