Boat mechanic needed!!! Water Pump Question.?

My water pump is still operational but is just sputtering water instead of a good stream. I assume it is clogged. How do I clean it or clear the line. The motor is a 40 hp Yamaha. Year model 98. Thanks for any help.

  1. outboard?? You drop the lower end and replace the pump and the tubeing. Not a bad idea to replace the thermostat also.

Not that big a job but a manual helps.

  2. just replace the water impellor and housing -do not replace and hoses or tubes unless you have to.  If the problem is still there after then look at hoses. does the engine over heat or is the water pressure just low?  if it is just low then you do not have a blockage in the engine maybe just the p**s hose.  99% chance the new impellor will fix it..do nto make more work for yourself.

  3. Yes my friend, that is a super model boat you got there. You take one of those pipe uncloggers you would unclog a bathtub drain with and you just use one of those with your boat.

  4. look.......just replace the impellor...it has a few blades broke off...one may be blocking your output and check that when you're in there.

    Done.

  5. I just use a flexible wire and run it into the hose a few times.
