Boat moter not spitting water???

my dad got a boat with a 1976 force moter and it starts up fine but it wont "spit" the water back out to cool the engine any suggestions on how to fix??

  1. Sounds like a water pump it is somewhat of an easy fix, if you are somewhat handy. The part is cheap,  (like 10-20 bucks) so if you have to pay to have it done it wont cost that much. try not to run the motor, because there is a good chance of it overheating and damaging it.


  2. If the motor has been used in saltwater the "p" hole may be plugged with salt.  Even a fresh water engine can plug the outlet with debris. Stick a flexible wire in the hole and try to clean it out.  Next check the intake filter (And I don't mean the carburetor intake filter)  for obstructions, being careful not to damage the filter that is usually plastic.  Lastly, blame the pump.

  3. First, take a hangar and stick it up the tell tale to clean it out. Gently.

    No, well then you have a bad impeller in the lower unit.

    Chances are the fins on the rubber impeller have been sheared off. Will need to be replaced.
