Question:

Boat recommendations please!?

I'd like to get my husband a boat....he's wanted one for so long and he works hard and he really deserves it. Anyway, I was wondering what type of older boats someone could recommend to me, maybe around $2K? Can I even get one in good working condition for that price and not have it needing a bunch of maintenance? He mainly wants to use it for fishing as well as tubing. Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks :)

  1. be sure to take it to a tech and have itchecked out. i would also stay away from a bayliner. bayliners are cheap made and rot out VERY quickly. dont forget to check the transom along twith the motor!

  2. Buy an older 14ft Boston Whaler. Those are sturdy boats and range around like $1500 US. You could cut one in hald and it'd still float. They can go very fast or very slow for fishing and tubing. Our neighbors have one a 1994 I think and it runs like any new boat would

  3. I would check at Cabel's or Bass pro shop for a flat bottom Jon boat

  4. There are LOTS of good sites on the web to check out , look up bone yard boats OR wooden boat rescue foundation . there are quite a few more , just take an hour and you will find an amazing amount of boats for sale CHEAP ! I got a 42 ft. yacht for FREE ! so just look around , its worth the time believe me !

  5. Careful careful... boats are so very different from one another.  It's even worse than buying a car.  Think about all the different models and types.  Now think about how hard it would be to select a car for someone else.

Also, you need to say where he will be using it.  A lake?  A river?  Shallow water or deep?

For $2k you can get a very nice rowboat, but a low maint power boat for that price will be hard to find, I can assure you.

You should try to find out what he wants first.

  6. Nice thought but it's not the way to start a marriage> Give him the money and let him pick the boat or you will never here the end of a good deed>As your idea and his will be quite different>
