My boat turns on fine, and will even go in to the lowest speed gear to move foward a little, but when I try to accelerate, slowly or fast, the boat will just shut off. It even shuts off when I try to accelerate in neutral. It's a 4.3L V6 MerCruiser I/O Motor. What could this be?

  1. Don't worry yourself, it's an easy problem to fix. It might just need new spark plugs or try cleaning the carborator and replacing the fuel filter. Also, if you let gas sit in it over the winter, it could be that too. If you have less than 1/2 of a tank or so, fill it with new  gas. The same thing happens to me at the beginning of the summer and thats what I do. Check the auto-choke to. Its located by the carborator. It may need to be replaced.

  2. you have a fuel problem check your fuel filter or just change it.a blocked filter will allow a small amount of fuel to pass, and the engine will idle. when you throttle up no gas to feed the engine above idle.

  3. i would check your automatic choke, not sure where it is located, but it sounds like your problem

  4. fuel issues

get a tune up carb problem

  5. Get a can of gumout and spray inside the carbs vent tubes let stand over night>If fuel injection run with injector cleaner> Change fuel filter & see if there's water inside them> Put carb cleaner in filters then run engine and shut off then let sit over night>
