Boating License?

Question

what kind of boating license would you need in Texas for some thing like a snorkeling tour

((there would be about 8 - 10 people on the boat at a time))

and if you know what kinf of license it is, i also need to know how to get one

and how long it will take

You need a USCG Captains license. If you limit your trip to 6 passengers you could get by with whats called a "6 pack " license, its for an Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels. Any more then that and you would need a Masters License for the tonnage of the vessel and area you plan to work in. You will be required to show proof of time underway on vessels and pass a written examination. You can get all the info you need from the USCG or contact a license school and they will handle the paperwork and also give the test.

You must apply for a business license in order to accommodate with the public. Contact your local Chamber of Commence for details. Remember that you must provide a substantial Liability Insurance bond before certification.
