What does it entail to drive a boat on the hudson, registration, ins. lisence????

  1. If you wish to operate a recreational vessel (other than a PWC) in New York and you are:

    Under 10 years of age you must be accompanied onboard by a person 18 years of age or older.

    If you are between 10 and 18 years of age: You may legally operate a boat only if you have passed a boating safety course approved by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and have onboard your boating safety certificate or be accompanied onboard by a person 18 years of age or older.  If you are 18 years of age or older you may legally operate any recreational boat without restrictions, safety course, or license.

    New York State requires all power-driven vessels, including personal watercraft and federally documented pleasure vessels, that operate principally upon the waters of New York to register with the New York State Department of Motor

    Vehicles (DMV). No insurance is required is required by the state, but will be by the bank - if you have a boat loan.
