Question:

Boating with 12 month old?

We have a 27' Cobalt ski craft that we use on the lake. Is my barely 12 month old son old enough to go out this summer? We have purchased a certified life jacket for his age & weight. I was just wondering if he could get sick from the wind or if anyone has any suggestions for us. We are very safe & experienced boaters & obviously we have a very safe & dependable boat.

  1. I think he would get beat to death by the waves in a ski boat.  And as little as he is, he could bounce out.  Maybe you could afix a carseat for him to set in while the boat is in motion.  Otherwise, I would not get up to "ski speed" with him on board.

  2. i started taking my twins out at 4 mo old. i put them in their car seats, tied a golf umbrella to the seats to keep the sun off. use a spritzer bottle to keep them cool (they don't sweat so well at a young age) and we motored the boat along nicely. we also water skiied and they looked like they enjoyed it. as soon as the boat stopped they would cry. perpetual motion was good. the twins are almost 13 now and they LOVE the lake, the boat and everything about it. they will be legally allowed to drive the boat next year and look forward to boating every weekend. ( as they get older  and taller those life vests will fit better...not so "neck squeezing")

  3. I wouldn't but if you say you're very experienced and the boat is safe go for it just make sure is a beautiful day not too hot or cold and bee very careful try too keep an eye on the child happy boating

  4. we took my son out on our boat last summer~ he was a little over one. he did fine ~ you just gotta make sure its a nice day w/ not too much sun, or if there's sun make sure he has shade. also,  depending on the size of the boat and the waves.... watch your son so that he doesnt get sick from too much back and forth motion w/ the waves
