Boats? Licenses? Age? FL?

Question

Okay, well my 14th birthday is coming up, and i want a boat for my birthday. I live on a canal, and in FL. I don't want it to be to big, just a small jon boat, with a motor.

Well my question is do i need a licenses? And am i old enough to drive a boat? and if i do need a licenses, how do i get one? and where?

and are there any websites u can point me to?

I'm pretty sure that before you can operate a small boat and 10 HP. motor, you have to pass a boating safety class.  What I'm unsure of is the minimum age.  I think it's 16 not 14.  However you can check with the local Department of Natural Resources, check the local phone book for the number.  The actual courses are offered every few months around the state. I know that you want to get on the water, but for now you need to be supervised by an adult.....  Happy Birthday!
