    velocity of B equals (v-1) in kph

    combined velocity equals (2v-1) in kph

    time, t = 1/3 hour

    dsitance, d = v times t = (1/3)(2v-1) = 9km

    (2v-1) = 27

    2v = 28

    v = 14

    v-1 = 13
