Bob Arum, Juan Manuel Marquez and Brandon Rios’ international media conference – Boxing News
Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum, along with three division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez and former lightweight champion Brandon Rios, hosted an international press conference call in order to reveal Top Rank’s plans for April 14 world championship
pay-per-view.
The April 14 world championship event will originate from two different countries. It will be Juan Manuel Marquez’s fourth world title fight against WBO European junior welterweight champion Sergey Fedchenko. The epic bout will be for the vacant WBO interim
140-pound world title. The fight will be held at the newly built Arena Mexico in Mexico City.
On the other hand, Brandon Rios, who has 29 wins, 0 loss, 1 tie and 22 knockouts in his portfolio, will take on with the WBA interim lightweight champion Richard Abril for the vacant WBA lightweight title. The fight will take place at Mandalay Bay in Las
Vegas. It will be another chance for Rios to reclaim his lost glory and title.
On the occasion, Arum said, “I am here in New York now and I am very excited about this card that will take place in both México City and Las Vegas. Juan Manuel Márquez is one of the finest fighters in the world and many people felt that the account the
he gave fighting Manny Pacquiao would have won the fight but that is boxing. Hopefully Juan Manuel is on the path right now so he can again fight Manny Pacquiao later in the year. So a lot of fights could happen."
He added that this is a great card and Brandon Rios who is one of the most popular fighters will be fighting Richard Abril, and similarly hailing from Denver, Mike Alvarado is in to fight Mauricio Herrera. He added that the between Alvarado and Mauricio
will be a bout for the battle of Top-10 junior welterweight contenders. Lastly, he said Filipino Mercito Gesta will be fighting Colombian Oscar Cuero.
He then said that he is very pleased to present great boxing matches to the fans in Mexico, especially an event being highlighted by Juan Manuel Marquez.
Marquez said that he feels happy because he will be fighting in Mexico City after 18 years, and so he will give his best.
