Bob Arum: I want to investigate whether there was any undue influence
After a highly controversial victory over Manny Pacquiao, Timothy Bradley might be enjoying the newly acquired WBO welterweight title, but everyone else is furious and in rage. On Saturday night, boxing fans witnessed probably the biggest robbery in boxing
history. Bradley won the fight with a split decision, even though he hardly landed any punches on Pacquiao’s face. Top Rank’s promoter Bob Arum remarked that he is ashamed to be a part of the sport now.
Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach, promoter Bob Arum and the thousands of fans who were gathered there were in a state of shock when the results were announced. So much so, the Pac-man did not even listen to result announcement, thinking he had won the show.
However, Pacquiao kept his cool and claimed that he did his best but maybe he was not good enough. While Manny can keep up with his temperament, it seems like others cannot. In the post-fight press conference, Hall of Famer promoter Bob Arum said, “I want
to investigate whether there was any undue influence, whether the (Nevada Athletic Commission) gave any particular instruction and how they came to this conclusion. But the whole sport is in an uproar. People are going crazy. If this was a subjective view
that each of [the judges] honestly held, OK. I would still disagree, but then we're off the hook in terms of there being no conspiracy. But there needs to be an independent investigation because it strains credulity that an event everybody saw as so one-sided
one way all three judges saw it as close. It strains credulity.”
As soon as the results were announced, the crowd booed at Bradley and the judges. Most analysts and fans called it a one-sided fight and they could not believe why the judges saw it as a close one.
For now, Manny Pacquiao is the disheartened one who will get his rematch in November. Bradley seems to be enjoying his upgraded win streak of 29-0 now. As Bradley had said it earlier, this was his big shot, and he made it to the mark by defeating Pac-man.
