Bob Arum: Lamont Peterson vs. Juan Manuel Marquez clash might happen – Boxing news
It seems that Bob Arum, owner Top Rank, has his whole yearly agenda planned since according to a recent update, Arum has officially contacted the current unified WBA super and IBF light welterweight champion, Lamont Peterson, to set up a bout between him
and Juan Manuel Marquez, the current WBO and the Ring lightweight champion.
According to the details put forth by the media, Bob Arum in addition to arranging the Manny Pacquiao-Timothy Bradley extravaganza, has decided to arrange a Lamont-Juan brawl as well. Barry Hunter, trainer Lamont Peterson has been officially contacted and
the talks about the future bout are still in its initial stage.
No contract has yet been signed nor has any aspect been formally finalised in written form. Bob Arum just talked to Barry Hunter and has at the moment shared this idea along with the advice of conducting the bout at Cowboy’s Stadium situated in Arlington
Texas.
The date put forth by Bob is July 14, 2012 and the fight if everything finalises will headline a pay-per-view. Bob while sharing the minutes of his short meeting with Barry said, “We haven’t made a deal yet, but I talked to Barry this morning and hopefully,
that will come together for July 14. Hopefully, we’ll be able to conclude July 14 for Cowboys Stadium. We’re holding Cowboys Stadium for the Marquez-Peterson fight.”
Lamont Peterson is currently experiencing a stern situation since he is involved in the Amir Khan controversy. Peterson was ordered a rematch after the apex boxing organisation gave the verdict in favour of Khan and the rematch. Up till now things have are
stuck and both camps are awaiting the court’s current verdict on the reconsideration application lodged by Lamont.
Juan Manuel Marquez recently ditched Manny Pacquiao as his next opponent and therefore is available for a bout. Amir Khan is available and scheduled to be in a bout against an opponent to be decided on May 19, 2012 further it is being reported that the first
and the foremost choice of the young Briton is Lamont.
Peterson is available for both Khan and Juan unless and until he comes up with a genuine reason to forfeit anyone of them. Apart from that both bouts are at a substantial distance therefore allowing Peterson to get ready for both. The ball is definitely
now in Lamont’s court and he has to take a decision. Bob Arum revealed that if Lamont takes a win over Juan he will move further to take on Manny most probably in the month of November.
