Bob Arum: Manny has to see that as a choice – Boxing News
Juan Manuel Marquez has tried his level best to push a fourth episode fight between him and Manny Pacquiao. However, Pacquiao’s camp has been declining the notion for quite some time until now. Pacquiao is currently busy helping out the flood victims in
the Philippines but his promoter Bob Arum, on his behalf, revealed that a fight against Marquez is possible.
Talking about a possible bout between Pacquiao and Marquez, Arum commented, “If the conditions are met, if someone puts up the money, we could take the fight to Mexico. The government knows what that kind of an event would do in the city and they know the
economic benefits there would be. [The leaders in Mexico City] should work together to [make it happen]. We have to see what’s the more lucrative fight to do. Manny has to see that as a choice. He fought a very close, controversial fight with Marquez that
some people felt Marquez won. He fought a fight with Bradley that nobody thought he lost, other than the two judges.”
After Pacquiao lost to Bradley via split decision, Arum was fired up for a rematch between the two. However, now it seems like Arum wants to build up public confidence in Manny first and then move onto a rematch with Bradley. Pacquiao’s loss to Bradley was
quite controversial and the Pac-man revealed that he would go for a rematch to get his title back soon. For now, it seems like Pacquiao and his camp would rather go for a rematch against Cotto or Marquez before trying out Bradley again. Besides, the controversial
split decision win of Bradley is already in review by the WBO. Arum has already stated that he will be waiting for decision of the WBO and the Nevada State Athletic Commission before deciding on a rematch.
Marquez is eager to get his hands on the Filipino once again to prove his mettle. In their three previous fights, Manny has defeated Marquez twice while one bout ended up in a draw. Therefore, even if Marquez wins this time, he still would be at 1 to 2.
