Bob Arum believes Floyd Mayweather is afraid of fighting Manny Pacquiao – Boxing News
Adding another bit to the Mayweather-Pacquiao’s saga is Bob Arum’s recent statement, which reads that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is afraid of fighting the Pac-Man. According to Arum, Mayweather knows that Manny Pacquiao is a fiercer fighter than he is which is
the main reason why he does not want the fight to happen.
Arum said, “Mayweather is a great fighter, there’s no question about that. Manny Pacquiao is a guy that would be very difficult for Floyd to figure out because he’s so quick. We promoted Mayweather for many, many years and one thing he never wanted to do
is fight a southpaw, particularly a quick southpaw who throws punches from many angles. Look at Mayweather’s style and a decent southpaw is going to give him trouble all the time.”
Arum also revealed that Mayweather has always shown hesitance towards fighting southpaws. When asked whether he is interested in making the fight happen, Arum replied, “Yes, absolutely we have been trying to make this fight happen for a while now and Manny
would like the fight to happen. I would certainly like the fight to happen.”
Both the fighters have been reining their divisions for years now. Mayweather currently holds the WBC welterweight championship whereas Pacquiao holds the WBO welterweight championship. In the recent past, both the fighters tried to negotiate to make the
fight happen but all dialogues failed when Mayweather showed resistance over giving Pacquiao share of the pay-per-view proceedings.
Later on, when asked, Manny Pacquiao said that he felt embarrassed when Mayweather offered him an upfront payment of the fight while he wanted to keep the entire pay-per-view earning. On the other hand, Mayweather clarified his stance saying that he is more
popular than Pacquiao and that he deserves more than what Pacquiao gets. Floyd Mayweather even went on saying that Manny Pacquiao is not as good as he thinks and that ‘he is not the sharpest knife in the drawer’.
Both the fighters are pretty popular in their hometown and they are known for being egoistic to a certain extent. However, they have promised fans that the mega-bout will happen for sure. If it does, then it definitely will be the biggest boxing event of
our generation.
