Bob Arum believes Nonito Donaire will return to Top Rank again – Boxing news
Robert ‘Bob’ Arum, the founder and chief of Top Rank, a professional boxing promotion company based in Las Vegas, believes that the Filipino-American professional boxer, Nonito Donaire, Jr. will return to Top Rank for promotional support soon with which
he has contractual obligations.
Arum said on his comeback, Top Rank will start its work to get a possible title defence shot for him.
Daniel Weinstein, who is the former judge, is currently acting as the mediator between Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions, made it clear to Nonito ‘The Filipino Flash’ Donaire that he cannot go for Golden Boy Promotions as he is still in a contractual relationship
with Top Rank.
The number three pound-for-pound boxer in the world, Donaire won five world titles in three different boxing weight classes. The 28-year-old, Donaire fought 27 of his total fights of which he won 26 competitive bouts including 18 knockout victories with
only one loss and no draws in his professional boxing career. In his last fight, Donaire won a second round technical knockout decision against Fernando Montiel on February 19, 2011 at the Mandalay Bay Resort Casino in Las Vegas, United States.
Donaire turned professional when he went against Jose Lazaro in 2001 at the Hollywood Park Casino in United States. The only loss came his way when he lost the unanimous points decision against Rosendo Sanchez on March 10, 2011 at the Pacific Sports Centre
in United States.
Arum said he is trying to bring him back to Top Rank after he signed a fight contract with Golden Boy Promotions. He said they were working on it.
Adding to this Arum said the president of Top Rank, Todd DuBoef has interacted with Donaire’s management to solve this issue. Arum believes that the results of this talk will be positive.
Donaire claimed in Las Vegas Court of Justice that Top Rank promotional company is in breach of contract with him since they were not able to give him three fights a year as they promised to do so in their contract.
In response, Arum said that after two of his fights, the former WBA Super Flyweight Interim World Champion, IBF Flyweight Champion and IBO World Flyweight Champion, Donaire suffered severe hand injuries and he was required to rest. He said the period lost
was about 300 days which effectively stopped Top Rank to arrange another bout for him.
