Bob Arum believes Pacquiao vs. Marquez 5 is bigger than Pacquiao vs. Mayweather – Boxing News
No one can deny the fact that boxing landscape has changed drastically following Manny Pacquiao’s knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez. The rivalry that was being led by the Filipino now has Marquez at the top. Although Pacquiao has won two fights against
Marquez while the Mexican has won just one, many believe Marquez is the better one.
To settle the dispute, Bob Arum of Top Rank believes both fighters should go for a fifth fight, and none of them has refused either. In fact, Pacquiao was ready to take Marquez on for the fifth time right after the loss.
Pacquiao’s loss has crushed dreams of the Filipino facing WBC welterweight titlist Floyd Mayweather. But, Arum believes that is of no concern, as Pacquiao vs. Marquez 5 would be bigger than Mayweather vs. Pacquiao.
“No. 5 is now the biggest fight in boxing, bigger than Pacquiao-Mayweather. The idea we’d be ready to fight April 20 is ludicrous,” said Arum when asked about the fifth fight between Marquez and Pacquiao.
“This fight shows the health of the sport. Great fight, shown all over it. The knockout happening right in front of the guy who was almost president of the United States,” Mitt Romney. “It puts the sport back in the mainstream.”
Not just Arum, even analysts and fans are now looking forward to the fifth fight, as everyone is eager what the Filipino fight king would do in order to avenge his defeat.
Pacquiao’s mother and wife have already asserted that they want the Filipino to retire. However, Arum believes retirement decision rests with Pacquiao.
“Jinkee (Pacquiao’s wife) can make any comment she wants. Manny’s comment is he wants to fight,” said Arum.
For now, it seems like Pacquiao is all ready to go against Marquez once again, and so is everyone else. It should be noted here that Marquez has not yet confirmed if he wants to fight Pacquiao again or not.
According to the Mexican, he will consider his options for the future, since he is already old and at the verge of retirement. If not Pacquiao, then probably Marquez will retire with his head high as he defeated the biggest rival of his career.
