Bob Arum brushes aside hopes of Mayweather-Pacquiao this year – Boxing News
Bob Arum, Hall of Famer promoter, in his recent media interaction brushed aside all hopes of the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight for this year. According to Arum, the most awaited bout of today’s boxing will not happen this year in fall, instead it can happen
next year.
His exact statement read, “I have to be realistic about this. I don’t think that Mayweather will be available in the fall to fight Manny. He certainly doesn’t indicate that he wants to fight him now. I would think, probably, everybody would be better off
if we thought about that fight [for] next year. But everything is open. First of all, Manny has a really tough fight with Bradley. And secondly, depending on how things break everybody would certainly agree that Juan Manuel [Marquez] deserves a rematch [with
Pacquiao]. So I would think that would be what I’m focusing on.”
He further added that Manny can chase the wild rabbit in the television commercial [for Hennessy], but as a promoter he can’t chase a wild rabbit and that he is now concentrating whether Manny is able to fight through until next year. He added that he is
planning or hoping that the Mayweather fight can take place next year.
Last year, Bob Arum said that the bout between two of the most famous boxers will be held in 2012, but now he says it will happen in 2013. For now, fans should completely forget about the super-bout since there are no chances of it happening soon.
Manny Pacquiao is already talking about retirement especially after his religious u-turn in life. He will be fighting unbeaten American fighter Timothy Bradley on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Manny previously said that this fight might be his career’s
last. On the other hand, Floyd Mayweather jr. is preparing to face Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto on May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. There were hopes that the bout between Mayweather and Pacquiao will happen in November this year, but now Arum has ruined those
hopes as well. For now, all fans can do is wait another year.
