Bob Arum claims Manny Pacquiao camp has agreed to random drug testing – Boxing News
The founder and CEO of Top Rank, Bob Arum, has revealed Manny Pacquiao’s camp has agreed to random drug testing with regards to a highly anticipated super-fight with the five-division world champion, Floyd
Mayweather, provided the drug testing is administered by a neutral agency.
The bout between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, who is currently an eight-division world champion, has not been negotiated as of yet because Mayweather accused Pacquiao of using illegal substances.
Mayweather, who is currently set to meet Victor Ortiz in September, wanted Pacquiao to agree to random blood testing up to the night of the fight but the Fighting Pride of Philippines, Pacquiao, refused
to do so.
However, Bob Arum has now claimed Pacquiao has agreed to the random blood testing but only if it will be administered by a neutral third party agency. He said, “We have agreed in the Pacquiao camp to unlimited
random testing done by a responsible, neutral organization.”
Arum told the media they don’t trust USADA, as they believe it is not a neutral organisation. Therefore Arum said the tests will be supervised by the Athletic commission of the state in which the fight
will be held.
He said, “We don't believe USADA is a neutral organization. I don't think anybody's test is as vigorous as the test administered by the Olympic Organization. And we can arrange for the Olympic Organization
to handle the test under the supervision of the Athletic commission respective of the state where the fight is going to be held.”
The current WBO Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion), Pacquiao, is scheduled to fight against Juan Manuel Marquez on November 12 and Bob Arum says if Pacquiao beats Manuel his fight with Mayweather
can be set up next year.
“If Pacquiao beats Marquez again and then if Mayweather says he's agreeable to us, then we can have the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight next year”, Arum remarked.
Let’s see if Mayweather-Pacquiao clash becomes reality, as it is surely going to one of the biggest fights in recent history.
