Bob Arum confirms efforts for Lamont Peterson -Timothy Bradley II – Boxing Special
Finally, CEO of Top Rank Bob Arum has revealed that the promotion is making efforts to bring IBF junior welterweight titlist Lamont Peterson and WBO welterweight titlist Timothy Bradley in the ring once again. According to Arum, the fight will possibly be
held at the Marlins Park in Miami on December 15 and it will be televised live by HBO.
“It would be a fight for the WBO welterweight championship,” said Arum. “We've sent contracts out, but it's not a deal until it's a deal.”
Peterson currently stands with 30 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie. His first loss came at the hands of Bradley back in 2009. Peterson lost to the ‘Desert Storm’ via unanimous decision. Recently, he dethroned Briton fighter Amir Khan via split decision at the Washington
Convention Center in December.
On the other hand, Bradley stands with 29 wins, 0 losses and 12 knockouts in his portfolio. He is coming off a controversial split decision win over Filipino fight kind Manny Pacquiao.
Peterson, who was stripped of his WBA light welterweight title after a positive drug test, will apply for a Florida state license, and Arum believes there should not be a problem in the process.
“We've been told no," said Arum, "that it won't be a problem because he's licensed in Washington, D.C.
It should be noted here that both Peterson and Bradley are coming off controversial wins over elite fighters. Fans are already in rage for their victories and so chances of the card being successful are quite low. However, Arum is well aware of the circumstances
and he will try his level best to make it a success.
Bradley was previously pestering Arum for a rematch against Manny Pacquiao, in order to defeat the Filipino in a more dominant manner. However, considering the fact that Bradley is not a seller when it comes to boxing matches, Arum insisted the Filipino
to go for a fourth fight against Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez. Arum’s predictions were right, tickets have already sold out and the fight between Marquez and Pacquiao is already declared a success, in terms of revenue generation.
