Bob Arum discusses possibility of a Manny Pacquiao-Antonio Margarito rematch
In light of his upcoming November 13 bout with Antonio Margarito, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum has said that should Manny Pacquiao lose, he will likely participate in a rematch with “The Tijuana Tornado.”
While turning over the possibility, Arum said it is nevertheless a distant one to consider, since Pacquiao has proven virtually unstoppable in the squared circle.
“If Manny loses, then I would assume there is going to be a clamor for a rematch with Margarito,” Arum stated. “[Nevertheless] When dealing with Manny and his people, and also my mental outlook, it’s very hard to consider him losing.”
Pacquiao, who arrived in the United State Saturday night to finish up the second part of his training camp, spent Sunday out of the sight of his team and attended a basketball game in San Diego.
In recent weeks Pacquiao has juggled a plethora of extracurricular activities that many say are affecting his focus and progress in camp.
Even trainer Freddie Roach weighed-in, saying on the recent HBO special Pacquiao-Margarito 24/7 that he believes Manny will ultimately quit boxing to pursue a nobler career in politics.
San Diego resident Pat Michael told the Philippine Daily Inquirer Sunday that Pacquiao did not play in the basketball game, but that he attended merely to fulfill a commitment that “made a lot of people happy.”
Aside from watching the game, Pacquiao used Sunday to catch up on rest. The return to Los Angeles made a lot of people breathe a sigh of relief, not least trainer Freddie Roach, who now has his fighter isolated from the political and public interruptions
that disrupted much of their training time in Baguio City.
Roach anticipates more intensive sparring sessions for “Pacman,” including new partners Vanes Martirosyan and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Earlier Roach put a bounty on Pacquiao, saying any partner able to knock Pacquiao down in sparring will earn $2,000. So far none have been able to collect.
