Bob Arum, who is the promoter of eight-division world champion and the current World Boxing Organisation World Welterweight Champion (Super Champion) Manny Pacquiao, wants a fourth fight between his man and Juan Manuel Marquez instead of a super-fight against
Floyd Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya is not happy with Arum’s remarks.
Pacquiao and Marquez last weekend on November 12, 2011 met each other in their highly anticipated trilogy bout at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada to settle their differences. However, unfortunately, they once again were too close and their fight
ended up in a controversial 12-round majority decision for Pacquiao. Therefore, Arum is looking for a fourth fight between the two boxers even when Mayweather’s camp has finally shown interest in Pacquiao.
“That fight [Mayweather] can still be there for us in November [2012],” Bob Arum told The Times.
Meanwhile, the Golden Boy, Oscar De La Hoya, who was Ring Magazine’s top-rated pound-for-pound fighter in the world in 1997 & 1998, is not happy with Arum’s remarks as he believes if finally there is an opportunity to set up a super-fight with the undefeated
American legend, it should be availed. De La Hoya has suggested Pacquiao to take on Mayweather instead of Marquez now.
“I say to Manny, fighter to fighter, ‘Step it up, tell Arum what you want,’” De La Hoya said. “You’re the fighter. You’re a congressman. You call the shots here and decide who you’re going to fight.”
The American superstar, Mayweather, has always been accused of avoiding a fight with Pacquiao. However, De La Hoya thinks it is Arum who is finding an excuse now when the fight between two of the biggest draws can finally be set.
“We know who doesn’t want the big fight now,” De La Hoya said. “And his name is Bob Arum.”
Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, also admitted Marquez deserves a rematch with his man which means a fourth fight is pretty much possible and all that is left to see is whether Pacquiao will offer Marquez a rematch or will show interest in one of the most
eagerly awaited bouts with Mayweather.
