Bob Arum hints at the possibility of a Pacquiao-Cotto rematch – Boxing News
Hall of Famer promoter Bob Arum has hinted towards the possibility of former WBO welterweight titlist Manny Pacquiao taking on Miguel Cotto for the second time this fall.
Arum, who is scheduled for a meeting with the Filipino pride to decide his next opponent, believes it is about time for Pacquiao to decide whom he wants to face on November 10. Arum believes Pacquiao has a plethora of options in front of him, lined up to
be sorted out.
Among all, Arum believes a fourth match against Juan Manuel Marquez or a second showdown against Miguel Cotto would be most profitable for him and Pacquiao. This is the first time Arum has come up with the notion of a rematch between Cotto and Pacquiao,
considering the Filipino’s rejection towards facing Juan Manuel Marquez for a fourth time.
“We could do a Cotto rematch, assuming we can come to an understanding on the weight,” said Arum in an interview to ESPN.com.
“Cotto is talking about going to 160 to fight somebody, but we've been talking to Gaby and we'll sort it out. I think Manny would be willing to do it at 150,” he added.
Manny Pacquiao is currently busy helping flood victims in his city, ignoring his commitments to the sport for quite some time now. Arum believes it is time for Pacquiao to finally come up with a name.
“Time flies and we're going to have to the announcement and the media tour the week of Labor Day because the week after that is our other big fight. So we have a very small window,” Arum added.
For now, Arum is hopeful that Pacquiao would go for either Cotto or Marquez, and not Bradley. According to Arum, a rematch against Cotto or Marquez would be a bigger seller compared to a second showdown against Bradley.
It should be noted here that Pacquiao has promised his nation to bring the WBO welterweight title back home. In this very context, it becomes mandatory for the Filipino to fight Bradley sooner or later. On the other hand, Arum wants the Pac-man to go for
another opponent this fall, and then fight Bradley next year.
