Bob Arum is excited about 50 Cents promoting Floyd Mayweather – Boxing News
Bob Arum has finally found common grounds with American fighter Floyd Mayweather. Usually Arum finds himself being provoked by Mayweather’s decision but this time the Hall of Fame promoter is excited to learn rapper 50 Cents will promote Mayweather from
now onwards.
Although it is not certain as to whether Mayweather, who released from a Las Vegas jail today, will be promoted by his own agency TMT Promotions. Yet, Arum believes the addition of 50 Cents in the arsenal has made a super-bout between Pacquiao and Mayweather
more likely.
“I would think that if [50 Cent] promoted Floyd, then it would make a match-up between Pacquiao and Mayweather that much easier,” said Bob Arum in an interview with RingTv.com
It should be noted here that all previous negotiations and dialogues between Mayweather and Pacquiao have been turned down by Mayweather’s camp. A fight between the two is expected o garner more than $250 million pay-per-view proceedings, which would be
the highest of all time.
Considering the business the fight can bring in, Bob Arum has always been eager to put both the fighters in the ring against each other but all his hard work has been of no use.
Now, Arum, who promotes former WBO welterweight titlist Manny Pacquiao, believes the time has come for the fight to take place, as both the boxers are at the verge of retirement.
“You would have somebody that is a friend and a mentor that he can rely on and they would protect his interests in any kind of promotion, and I would be on the side of Pacquiao,” said Arum while talking about the possibility of the fight.
As of now, Pacquiao is scheduled to fight on November 10, but his opponent has not been decided yet. The Filipino was challenged by Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez for a fourth fight, but Pacquiao thumbed down the offer.
If not Mayweather then Pacquiao will probably settle down for a rematch against the current WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley.
Nothing is for sure yet. Mayweather was released from jail earlier today but the WBC welterweight titlist avoided talking to media. The super-bout between Mayweather and Pacquiao is still hanging onto Mayweather’s verdict.
