Bob Arum not serious about Floyd Mayweather’s plan of fighting Manny Pacquiao – Boxing news
The chief of Top Rank Promotions, Bob Arum, has said that he is not taking Floyd Mayweather’s plan of taking on Manny Pacquiao seriously because Arum believes Mayweather is just trying to steal some of Pacquiao’s spotlight and nothing else.
The Fighting Pride of Philippines, Pacquiao, who is an eight-division world champion and the current World Boxing Organisation Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion), is currently set to take on Juan Manuel Marquez in their much-anticipated trilogy
bout on November 12, 2011 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and Arum has insisted they are not going to consider anything until after the bout.
Arum stated if Team Mayweather would have wanted the fight they would have contacted Top Rank instead of going to the media.
“Listen, we're not going to consider anything until after the Marquez fight,” Arum said to Fighthype.com. “The way they are going about it seems like a bizarre way to go about it. If you want to put it together, you meet, you talk. You don't just come out
and say, 'The fight is May 5 at the MGM.' What kind of negotiation is that? So I don't take what they said seriously.”
“I think it's Floyd's way of trying to grab a little bit of the spotlight away from Manny. I'm not going to get upset. I take it with a grain of salt,” Arum added.
The chief of Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe, recently declared that Team Mayweather is planning to set up the biggest fight and everyone knows who that could be with.
Pacquiao is currently rated as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world but this position was previously held by the undefeated American legend, Mayweather, who is a five-division world champion and the current World Boxing Council World Welterweight
Champion.
Therefore, Mayweather versus Pacquiao is one of the most eagerly awaited bouts in the sport and many out there think if a fight between these two boxing’s best ever happens, it will break all the grossing records as of yet.
Let’s hope these two pugilists finally sign a contract, as their bout will certainly have all the hallmarks of being an absolute classic.
