Bob Arum places Pacquiao next to Muhammad Ali the Great – Boxing News
Bob Arum has always been an admirer of Manny Pacquiao, and now he has taken his appreciation to the next level. Bob Arum, who is a Hall of Fame promoter, having served the sport for than 45 years, recently revealed his list of the all time ten best fighters
he has promoted. In the list, Muhammad Ali the Great topped, being second by Manny Pacquiao.
The following is the list by Arum along with his remarks for each fighter:
1.       Ali (“the greatest”)
2.       Pacquiao (“blinding speed and power”)
3.       Sugar Ray Leonard (“great composure and talent”)
4.       Marvelous Marvin Hagler (“consistently splendid”)
5.       Roberto Duran (“the greatest at lightweight, great at higher weights”)
6.       Joe Frazier (“best pressure fighter”)
7.       George Foreman (“most powerful puncher”)
8.       Alexis Arguello (“superb technician”)
9.       Julio Cesar Chavez (“best body puncher ever”)
10.   Carlos Monzon (“huge middleweight, virtually unbeatable”)
Boxing News was the publication that published Arum’s list. For Pacquiao, the publication commented, “Pacquiao has spent most of his best years with promoter Arum and trainer Freddie Roach in his corner. His relationship with Roach is more father-son than
pupil-teacher and the images of Roach and Pacquiao together, whether it’s in Freddie’s Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles or in training camp in the Philippines, have become some of the most iconic of the modern era. The bespectacled former fighter and the Filipino
phenom have made an unlikely alliance but trainer, master tactician and the man with the game plans and the fighter they call ‘Pacman’ combined to lead the pound-for-pound ratings alongside the biggest name he has not faced, Mayweather.”
It should be noted here that while Pacquiao is on the second position in Arum’s list, he stands at No. 42 in Boxing News’ Top 100 Boxers of All Time.
After achieving enormous success and popularity throughout the globe, Manny Pacquiao has definitely become a boxing icon of our age. Surely, he has not faced Floyd Mayweather jr. to date, yet he is as popular as the unbeaten American. Pacquiao and Mayweather
stand toe to toe when it comes to their capabilities and achievements. The only part where Mayweather leads is of being unbeaten.
